About the artist
Clarine Wilmar is a multi-disciplinary Melbourne (Naarm) based artist who incorporates sculpture, drawing, painting and textiles within her artistic practice. Being a person of mixed race and never feeling properly connected to either culture, Clarine utilises this feeling of otherness to celebrate and reclaim her cultural identity, through the creation of hybrid works.
She explores her sense of disconnect though the human-animal connection, delving into the world of ecology and capturing the vast scope of our similarities and differences that make us unique. Clarine references elements from her sea-side upbringing by focusing on the intersection of Melbourne's coastal nocturnal habitats and man-made suburbia.
Wilmar’s fascination with fusion also translates into the mediums utilised as she often creates mixed-media pieces that consists of various components and textures mirroring the complexities found in the natural world.
