Diversity Arts Australia has partnered with Erin Chew, Being Asian Australia, the Asian Australian Alliance in collaboration with Osmond Chiu and Democracy in Colour to gather reports of Covid19-related racism. We collected over 500 stories of xenophobia and abuse, you might have heard about it on The Agenews.com.auArtsHub or the ABCFind out more here.

We’re responding with an artist-led project to confront xenophobia and racism, bust stereotypes and provide a counter-narrative to issues of long-standing racism in Australia that has intensified during Covid-19.

The Glorious Gourd Gang, mixed media sculpture by Clarine Wilmar at COZY group exhibiton
2021, COZY, Meat Market Stables, Platform Exhibitions, North Melbourne

This exhibition explores the boundaries between complacency, comfort, growth and discomfort. Join us as on a journey of introspection as we examine the variables that influence your comfort and discomfort, the fluidity of these boundaries and the costs of our comfort and discomfort.

2021, The Glorious Gourd Gang, mixed media

The Glorious Gourd Gang explores the interconnection between human beings and the natural world through anthropomorphic qualities on non-human forms. The mixed media sculptural work captures a scene wherein a large gourd family sit cozily with each other representing the idea of comfort and familiarity.

Shadows at play promo
2021, Shadows at play, online exhibition

Shadows can produce darkness, highlight the light, evoke beauty or something more sinister. Shadows can be very obvious or somewhat subtle by definition. Shadows at Play is a collection of over 60 artworks exploring the theme with sculpture, NFT's, moving image, digital works, paintings, illustrations, photographs and more.

This work interprets the theme of Shadows At Play by focusing on the idea of past memories as a shadow. Something that is constantly with you, something that is never too far out of reach and something that can distort and change throughout time.

My work, Conversations With My Younger Self draws focus on the idea of uniting my past and present self. Captured in a playful depiction, the two figures communicate an energy exchange as the older one holds out a gourd to the younger figure. A gourd, in Chinese culture is believed to hold magical powers, it represents protection, good fortune and wisdom for the person who receives it.

2021, Liminal Hybridity: collaborative exhibition, Brunswick Street Gallery, 2021

In this exhibition, Bryan Mew and Clarine Wilmar collaborate to explore the phenomenology of dreams and the awareness of dimensions beyond the physical plane. The interconnection of incongruous worlds is portrayed through the existence of the physical body in a metaphysical realm, coexisting alongside uncanny anthropomorphic beings derived from the natural world.
